After you read this, you might want one. In fall of 1996, we were sitting in a Cracker Barrel in Fort Worth, Texas, and Michelle was eating a catfish sandwich. She was pregnant with our firstborn at the time and she ate them every chance she got. On this particular evening, we were engaged in a serious discussion (we'd been talking seriously and praying for months) about quitting our day jobs and pursuing music full time. We were feeling the pull to fully be who we felt like we were called to be. We felt like God was leading us in this direction. We were full of faith and hope for our future. We were saying to each other that we just had to say we had tried, in our lifetimes, to do what we truly felt called to do. We were young. We were crazy. We were naive. We were pregnant, for pete's sake! (Kids, we don't recommend this as a prime time to leave your steady income). We had no idea what we would come up against in the years to come. Nevertheless, the desire to live the adventure trumped all of the other factors and over a catfish sandwich, we cheerled each other into a decision....we would do it.
Fifteen years of life, children, music and ministry have passed since then. The seeds of hope and faith God planted in us years ago are alive and well! We have weathered some storms, like everybody else. We have lived through hurts, breakthroughs and startling revelations of God's love. After 15 years, we know some things we didn't know back then. We know what we forfeit to pursue this calling. We know more of our own Kingdom value. We know that when we stand up walk in our calling, it hacks the enemy off. We know that God takes care of us. We know that God never changes. We know that God can do anything. We aren't young, naive or pregnant anymore, but we are likely still crazy.
As God is opening up a new season of music and ministry to us, we have been reminded of that night in Cracker Barrel so long ago. Here we are, 15 years later, still wanting the same things...still wanting to be who He has made us to be and still willing to risk things to follow His lead. We are more in love with God and people and that is because of God's faithfulness to us. We have had 15 years to count the cost and we still want in!
So it is with the ambience of a warm, dimly lit Cracker Barrel that we announce our upcoming project, aptly named, "Catfish Sandwich"! We have a bunch of exciting music and ministry ventures in our hearts for 2012. If you would like to know more about them and simultaneously receive a burned copy of our first run at five songs from "Catfish Sandwich" please email Michelle at ascensionarts@mac.com. Send us your mailing address and we will send you a packet with infomation about our upcoming projects along with the cd.
Merry Christmas friends! We pray that if there is a catfish sandwich moment in your history that you are needing to return to, that you will receive the grace to do it!!
Blessings,
Barry, Michelle, Russell, Ivy, Elliott & Samwise
